Cabinteely Library

Cabinteely Library is a renovated Carnegie building built in 1912 to the designs of the celebrated architect Rudolph Maximilian Butler who also designed Dundrum and Shankill Libraries. Built in the then fashionable Arts and Crafts style it is beautifully situated in a large garden in the middle of Cabinteely village. Its red and blue tiled roof, leaded windows and copper cupola make it a distinctive local landmark. The garden is surrounded by its original granite walls with two cast iron gates from which two paths lead to the main entrance. This has a distinctive dressed granite surround and a bay window to the left, making it one of Butler’s most successful library designs. Cabinteely is our second smallest library with a floor area of 179 m and an outdoor garden space with seating area.
