dlr Libraries are delighted to share this joyful video entitled Depicting Diversity. It gives a flavour of this important initiative which is funded by Creative Ireland and which arose out of the Black Lives Matter movement. Artist Mags Harnett conceived and co-ordinated the project in close partnership with dlr Libraries and the National Gallery of Ireland, with additional resources from Children's Books Ireland.
Towards the end of last year, Mags worked with a range of primary schools in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and we're now inviting more schools to join in the fun for the final term before Summer. What better way to celebrate hope for the future and creativity than by participating in this life-enhancing project which has at its heart a deep-felt respect for diversity - to quote the late John Hume 'Difference is the essence of humanity. Difference is an accident of birth and it should never be the source of hatred or conflict'.
If you are a teacher of 4th-6th classes in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, don't miss this opportunity for a limited number of workshops, in 2 parts per class and they will take place between early May - mid June. The project is linked with the Primary School Curriculum and explores the SPHE strand on self-identity and relationships with others. Each participating school will receive a pack which includes books and art materials from dlr Libraries and resources from the National Gallery of Ireland and Children’s Books Ireland. Booking essential by emailing dlrlexiconlib@dlrcoco.ie
