Difference is the essence of humanity. Difference is an accident of birth and it should therefore never be the source of hatred or conflict. Therein lies a most fundamental principle of peace: respect for diversity. – John Hume (Nobel Lecture, Oslo, 10 Dec. 1998)
Calling all Primary School teachers of 4th-6th classes in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown! We have an exciting new opportunity for you to take part in workshops and an art exhibition. This project which is funded by Creative Ireland arose out of the Black Lives Matter movement with dlr Libraries working in close partnership with the National Gallery of Ireland with additional resources from Children’s Books Ireland.
The project was conceived and co-ordinated by artist Mags Harnett and the final artwork from the workshops will be a playful exhibition (onsite and online) that will celebrate diversity. It is also linked with the Primary School Curriculum and explores the SPHE strand on self-identity and relationships with others. Each participating school will receive a pack which includes books and art materials from dlr Libraries and resources from the National Gallery of Ireland and Children’s Books Ireland. Booking essential by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
There are just a few places left so don’t hesitate to get in touch. We will be selecting schools on a first come, first served basis, 1 class per school. The workshops (in 2 parts per class) will take place between November to mid-December.
