The Press Photographers Association of Ireland is delighted to announce that 21 award-winning images from its ‘Press Photographer of the Year’ Awards 2021 are now on display at dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire. The images, which are mounted on the walls in the grounds of dlr LexIcon, were officially launched by Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Cllr. Úna Power, on Friday 16th April 2021 and will be on display until early June.

The photo panels, which were kindly printed by dlr Libraries (thanks to Concept 2 Print), have been specially treated to withstand the unpredictable Irish weather so visitors to Dún Laoghaire are invited to enjoy this stunning exhibition on their rambles around the area.

The ‘Press Photographer of the Year’ 2021 title was awarded to James Crombie of Inpho Photography, whose portfolio the judges cited as “A marriage of superb features work, creative portrait work and solid sports photography.” James received two category awards – first prize in sports action for his sublime image ‘Foggy Semi-Final’ as fog descended during the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Semi-Final between Mayo and Tipperary and second prize in sports non-action for his iconic image ‘He is Risen’ taken as a fan watches St. Brigid’s play Boyle in the Roscommon GAA Senior Football Championship Semi-Final over a graveyard wall.

For the first time ever, this year’s Awards ceremony was held digitally and was streamed online via the Press Photographers Association of Ireland website. Presented by broadcaster Miriam O’Callaghan the ceremony saw photographers from all four corners of the island of Ireland recognised for excellence in press photography.

Dr. Marian Thérèse Keyes, Senior Executive Librarian at dlr LexIcon, commented, “One of the highlights of our exhibition calendar every year is the arrival of the Press Photographer of Year Awards so we are delighted that despite current lockdown restrictions we were able to welcome 21 of the award-winning images to dlr LexIcon. We invite locals and visitors alike to take some time to admire the outstanding imagery over the coming weeks.”

Speaking at the official launch at dlr LexIcon, Paul Sherwood, President, Press Photographers Association of Ireland, said, “We are delighted that these award-winning images from the Press Photographer of the Year Awards 2021 will be showcased in the grounds of dlr LexIcon and I would like to thank Marian Keyes for her continued support for our association and Awards. We hope that those out for a stroll in Dun Laoghaire over the coming weeks will stop by and enjoy browsing through the award-winning imagery from our Irish press photographers from across the country.”
