Starr’s world is turned upside down when she witnesses her best friend Khalil being shot by the police. Starr is a young 16yr old teenager living in poor neighbourhood but she attends prep school. Starr struggles to balance her life between the two contrasting worlds. Angie perfectly captures life as a teenage girl grieving over the horrible tragedy over her best friend being killed. Angie gives a very real insight into the struggles of young black teens witnessing everyday violence and racism in America. It’s a thrilling read. This book is a recommended read for both teens and adults alike. It is currently the best book I have read this year.
