This is a Chinese Science Fiction novel translated into English which offers an intriguing insight into the Chinese cultural revolution, human nature and theoretical physics. Don’t let that put you off!
The story jumps between two times, Ye Wenjie witnesses her father's execution by the Red Guard and this colours her view on China and humanity. Later Wang Miao, a nanotech engineer, becomes involved in the investigation of the inexplicable suicides of some of earths leading scientists and the involvement of a mysterious group.
This book does need a bit of concentration in places (the heavy theoretical physics sections) but is worth a read for the non-western centric view and it makes you ask yourself what you would do in that same situation.
