Summer Stars is an exciting reading-based programme which is available free of charge to all children across the country.

The Summer Stars reading challenge runs during the summer in public libraries all over Ireland. Children are invited to register and enjoy reading lots of books during this time. All participants will be given a Summer Stars reading card to record their progress. They will receive a stamp on their card for each book that they read, and if they're on holidays they can collect Summer Stars reading stamps wherever they are in the country! There are lots of fun rewards along the way as well as great prizes to be won by entering reading cards into prize draw boxes that will be in each dlr library. Look out for stickers, pencils, rubbers and bags to name just a few incentives you can collect this summer!

We also have Summer Stars reading events programmed for every dlr library during July and August. Look out for end of summer reading celebrations and winners of our grand prize draw will also attend a prizegiving ceremony in dlr LexIcon in October.

Check out the Summer Stars website here. You'll find lots of online games and activities as well as a range of animated e-books. There's a children’s books discussion board and interviews with well-known people about their favourite books. There are also helpful tips for reading and recommended titles by age group for children to read. Those books can then be borrowed from your local library service. And it’s all free!

You can follow Summers Stars on Twitter @StarsReading and on Facebook and Instagram at Summer Stars at your Library.
