Puppets Event

Puppets in July at dlr LexIcon will bring the magic and engaging artistry of puppetry to new audiences this summer. A lively programme will run from 4-20 July, featuring a mix of Irish and international puppeteers from Bulgaria, Spain, and Italy.

Irish puppeteers including Julie Rose Mc Cormick, Sinead Lynch, Your Mans puppets, Púca Puppets, Marie Denham, and Margot Jones will showcase their unique talents both indoors and outdoors at dlr LexIcon, keeping the beautiful art of puppetry alive in library spaces. And for a unique twist, attendees can experience a puppet adaptation of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, complete with romance, fighting, fairies, magic flowers, and a group of puppets putting on their own mini puppet show – albeit with some humorous mishaps!

In addition to puppet shows, the programme will include talks on famous Irish puppeteer Eugene Lambert and Victorian Marionettes, as well as an exhibition of rare Burmese Puppets.  Visitors can look forward to performances such as Allegro Vivace by the Bulgarian Varna State Puppet Theatre, Mamulengo puppetry from Trapusteros Teatro in Spain, and Gianluca di Matteo's traditional Neapolitan puppet show: Le Guarattelle di Pulcinella.

Don't miss this exciting event that promises to captivate audiences of all ages and celebrate the art of puppetry in a unique and engaging way.

Puppets in July is kindly supported by Irish UNIMA and Creative Ireland*. Irish Unima aims to promote the activities of Irish puppeteers and the art form of puppetry in Ireland and abroad.
