Local Studies

Introduction

The ambition of dlr Libraries is 'To connect and empower people, inspire ideas and support community potential'. Within this context, the mission statement of the Local Studies Plan (2015-19) is as follows: To collect, maintain, preserve and make available material and online resources pertaining to the history and heritage of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and to encourage greater public and community awareness and understanding of the County's rich culture and traditions.

Access to the Local Studies Collection is currently available by appointment only. To make an appointment, please email localhistory@dlrcoco.ie or phone (01) 280 1147. The Local History collection is housed in dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire, on the 5th floor. Check full catalogue here.

Please note that many of the exhibitions produced by dlr Libraries relate to local history and can be found here.

FAQs
How can I join?

To join, you need to complete an application form, either online HERE or in person at one of our libraries. Bring photo ID plus one document showing your current address, e.g. a driver's licence, electricity bill or post office book.
Those in temporary accommodation or with no fixed address will need to mention this to library staff when joining and show photo ID. 

Your Library Card ?

Your library card allows you to reserve and borrow items from all library services in the country.

You must bring your library card if you wish to borrow library material or use a Public PC in DLR Libraries.

Please notify DLR Libraries immediately if your library card is lost or stolen, as you are responsible for any transactions prior to this notification.

All borrowers are responsible for ensuring that the Library Service has their correct personal details, i.e. address, phone numbers and email address.
