Ireland Reads - events for little ones!

New! Portable dlr Scéal Trail
Following on from the success of our outdoor Scéal Trails, dlr Libraries will be launching the first Portable Scéal Trail in time for Ireland Reads. Portable sets of Spidey by Carmel Uí Cheallaigh will be available exclusively for loan to all Early Learning & Care settings in the County. You can decide how to use and engage with the set: you can place it on the wall, upright or out flat like a puzzle; you can use it outdoors or indoors. Each story panel has a strut at the back to keep it upright, and is coated in a laminated wipe-down protective coating.

Spidey is a delightful Irish language picture book written by Carmel Uí Cheallaigh and Illustrated by Fintan Taite. This Scéal Trail version is in English & Irish to make it bilingual and accessible. Read more about dlr Scéal Trails here.

Exclusive events for Early Learning & Care Centres for Ireland Reads on Friday 25 February

Online story and craft session with Muireann Ní Chíobháin (pre-recorded event)

Join children's author, broadcaster, doodler and mamaí Muireann online for a book-led pre-recorded session as Gaeilge for little ones. After listening and enjoying the story, they can even create their very own leabhar dréimire - book ladder!

Online art workshops with White Doodle (live via Zoom)

Susie from White Doodle will be Zooming all over the County with 3 separate art workshops for little ones to engage with. Each creche/playgroup can log into one or all of the sessions and take part.

A link to access each session on Zoom will be emailed to all early years settings in DLR ahead of 25 Feb. If you don't receive the link by Thurs 24 Feb, please contact libraryculture@dlrcoco.ie. The same Zoom link and passcode will be used for all 3 workshops.

9.15-10.00am Follow the Trail of the Snail

Draw along with this step by step, bring the snail for a walk. 

You will need: White paper, Black crayon, Coloured crayons, Paint or paint sticks (preferably)

10.15-11.00am Draw and colour along to make a Very Hungry Caterpillar.

11.15-12.00pm Create a Maisie Mouse picture
