King Lear: An Exploratory Session with Brian Cosgrove

Professor Brian Cosgrove is the former head of the Department of English at NUI Maynooth. Brian, a library local, comes to Deansgrange Library to give 2025 Leaving Cert students a chance to explore themes in this year's Shakespearean play, King Lear. 

The session will begin by observing the parallel experiences of the fathers, Lear and Gloucester, victimised by members of their families, but each redeemed by one virtuous daughter or son. 

The session will include close readings of the more remarkable sequences in the play. Please bring along your own questions for Brian to answer!
