'Brigid 1500’ is a national programme of events, to celebrate and commemorate St. Brigid the woman, her life and her legacy in a broad and rich way.The programme will engage with the values St. Brigid championed including faith and spirituality, biodiversity and sustainability, arts and culture, social justice, peace, hospitality and education.

 

dlr Libraries will be hosting a series of events to celebrate Brigid 1500, including an exhibition in dlr LexIcon from 1 February.

Events for Schools

Make a St. Brigid’s Cross with Wicklow Willow

Max 1 class per session. All materials supplied. Booking required. Teachers should contact the relevant library directly.

St. Brigid was a trailblazer. Learn about some of the unconventional and unruly women who followed in Brigid’s footsteps and broke the mould. Meet the women today inspired by them,and her. Panel discussion chaired by Flor MacCarthy featuring Ailbhe Smyth, Flor MacCarthy, Senator Eileen Flynn, Sarah Webb, Justine McCarthy, Martina Devlin and Lise-Ann McLaughlin.

Poetry at the LexIcon will welcome three Irish poets, Tara Bergin, Dawn Watson and Grace Wells, whose varied and vibrant work is central to women’s writing today. We will explore the many ways to inhabit contemporary womanhood, and the echoes of complex Irish women, such as St Brigid, throughout our history. Organised and introduced by Rosamund Taylor
