Fáilte Ireland confirmed in a release this morning that the multi award winning dlr LexIcon is the 5th most visited free tourist attraction in the country.  With over 525,000 visitors in 2017, dlr LexIcon provides visitors and locals with state of the art facilities comprising of a library, art gallery, exhibition and meeting room, theatre and conference space, public meeting rooms, cafe and one of the best views on the east coast.  The Cultural Programme at dlr LexIcon is unique with exhibitions of international significance in the gallery along with concerts and seminars in the Studio.  Digital technology and literacy is proving very popular with tasters for the public on 3D printing, robotics and other emerging technologies.  The library has some 80,00 items in the collection and offers regular workshops and talks to the public.

The dlr LexIcon forms a key part of the Councils 'Between the Lines' cultural tourism strategy, showcasing the best that the county has to offer tourists.  (More information on Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Councils Tourism Strategy can be found here

dlr LexIcon quietly opened in December 2014 but very quickly garnered attention from the public who have flocked to the building on a daily basis.  Most days some 1,500 people pass through the doors.  During 2017 there were more than 800 events programmed throughout the space.  Initially the LexIcon opened for 57 hours per week but in the last year we introduced Sunday opening in the afternoon which is proving a great success with both tourists and locals.  The dlr LexIcon is part of a programme of regeneration in the immediate Dún Laoghaire area with other County Council public realm projects such as the former Dún Laoghaire Baths redevelopment project and the Otranto Place works currently underway.

Commenting on the announcement An Cathaoirleach of the county, Cllr Tom Murphy, said "The dlr LexIcon has clearly become one of country's most popular cultural institutions.  I am very proud that Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown is able to provide this public space to locals and tourists with world class facilities and award winning design."
