Poetry day Ireland was a huge success at dlr LexIcon on Thursday 26 April. Beautiful sunny spells and dramatic downpours accompanied the inaugural Poetry by the Pond event, we were delighted with the wonderful turnout for this event, with 6th year students from Clonkeen college taking time out from a busy year to read and listen to poetry. We hope to see you at the next one, on Thursday 31st May.

Also taking place for the second year in a row, we were delighted to welcome back pupils from Holy Child Killiney who drew images from their favourite poems in chalk on the pavement. The poets included, amongst others, Mark Doty, Robert Frost, Siegfried Sassoon and Christopher Logue. The idea was suggested by their teacher Ciara Flannery last year and it was another highlight for this year's Poetry Day Ireland. RTÉ News2Day covered the event and the girls were interviewed by Tommy Meskill inside the LexIcon at Mark Granier's photographic exhibition Ghostlight before showing some of their chalk art outside - link here. Thanks to all 8 TY students and congrats to them! Visitors to the LexIcon can still see fragments of the images as they walk into the library at Haigh Terrace, despite the heavy showers.

Pick up a pocket poem at the LexIcon while stocks last - featuring poems by Tara Bergin, Moya Cannon, Vona Groarke, Francis Harvey, Seamus Heaney, Rita Ann Higgins, Sinéad Morrissey, Padraig Regan and Gabriel Rosenstock. Or download them on http://www.poetryireland.ie/poetry-day/and look at Niall MacMonagle's handy guide to all the poems!
