Shoe Dog

By
Phil Knight
Overview

A sports / business memoir which would be of interest to anyone curious about the origin story of Nike. I had never heard of Knight before, even though his wealth and impact compares to Bill Gates or Warren Buffet. This is part memoir, part branding exercise, part business thesis, which reads like a case study for a marketing or business student. That isn't to say it's not entertaining or revealing about its author. Reading it gives an insight into the culture of corporate sponsorship in sport, of creating a culture in the workplace, using your skills strategically as an entrepreneur and allowing for luck and chance to occur. I lost interest after the part where Nike becomes a success but it was an easy read.
