The struggles of the institutional church: contemporary Irish Catholicism from Pope John Paul II to Pope Francis
Event Description

During this talk, Dr Daithí Ó Corráin will use the 1979 and 2018 papal visits to Ireland as bookends, tracing the trajectory of the Irish Catholic Church during this period when a buoyant Irish Catholic culture – characterised by exceptional levels of popular religious practise and a vast institutional presence – came to an end and was replaced by an ongoing process of adaptation.
