Gerald Dawe 22 April 1952 - 29 May 2024

The staff of dlr Libraries were saddened to hear of the death of distinguished poet, writer and academic, Gerald Dawe.
Gerald was a highly regarded artist and scholar, a Fellow Emeritus of Trinity College Dublin (TCD), and the 28th recipient of the Lawrence O'Shaughnessy Prize for Poetry, awarded in 2024.

Gerald Dawe was a good friend and supporter of dlr Libraries. In 2023, we were delighted to receive a significant donation from Gerald to add to our collection. Gerald donated 1116 items from his personal library to dlr LexIcon including his own poetry books, pamphlets, and programmes as well as works of others including many unique and signed poetry books.
The Gerald Dawe collection is located on Level 5, dlr LexIcon in our reference library and can be accessed via appointment.

Gerald Dawe will be missed by library staff and all who knew him.
Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

As a mark of deep appreciation for Gerald, we hope to display the exhibition: “Cultural Belongings: The poetry of Gerald Dawe” once again in the near future. Please look out for updates on our webpage/social media.
