Halloween events for children during mid-term break from dlr Libraries

This mid-term break why not joins dlr Libraries online for some wonderful Halloween themed events. We have Creepy Creatures art making workshops with artist Kim Jenkinson, Spooky Stories from storyteller Helena Byrne with tales connected to the pooka, the banshee and Halloween traditions. Aoife Munn is on hand to help little ones make potions and wands and to help older children make pumpkin carving creations.

All of these sessions will be delivered online via zoom.

Please email librarybookings@dlrcoco.ie to book your child’s place.

Note:

  • please specify event and event time you wish them to attend
  • Include child’s name, age and also the name on the zoom account they will be using.
  • Parents/guardians must be present with their children during all online sessions.

 

Creepy Creatures art workshop with Kim Jenkinson

Wed 28 Oct, 11am-12pm

and

2pm-3pm

Age suitability: 7+, max 12 participants

Join us for some mid-term fun at this art workshop where we will be creating some creepy creatures to decorate your haunted house with this Halloween.

Workshop materials will be supplied in a pack* from dlr LexIcon, all you will need are some spooky scissors and ghostly glue to participate!

* The materials pack will be available for collection from dlr LexIcon from Wed 21st Oct (note library staff will not be on duty in the Library from 24-26 Oct inclusive due to the bank holiday.)

 

Potions and Wands, Halloween Workshop with Aoife Munn

Thursday 29th of October, 10 am-11 am 

Age suitability 5-7yrs, max 15 participants

From potions to magic wands this craft session has everything you need to get ready for Halloween.  This will be the most magical Halloween yet!

* The materials pack will be available for collection from dlr LexIcon from Wed 21st Oct (note library staff will not be on duty in the Library from 24-26 Oct inclusive due to the bank holiday.)

 

Pumpkin Carving Class with Aoife Munn

Thursday 29th of October, 11.30am -12.30pm

Age suitability: 7+, max 15 participants

For older kids who are able to use the tools safely.  Participants will need to pick up a pumpkin and pumpkin carving kit (widely available from most supermarkets).  Participants will be emailed clever easy to use designs, taught all the tricks and hacks for pumpkin carving and will have an impressive pumpkin by the end of the class, please stay with your child to give carving assistance!

 

Spooky Stories with Helena Byrne

Thursday 29th of October, 4pm-4.50pm

and

7pm-7.50pm (45 min)

Age suitability: all ages but ideally 6+, max 15 participants

Join local storyteller Helena Byrne for an adventure into the Other World! We'll meet the many characters of Irish folklore as they roam the land for the Festival of Samhain; that most magical and mysterious time of year. We'll hear tales of the fearsome Banshee, the playful Pooka & the mischievous Leprechaun, with spooky Irish Ghost Stories, fun Halloween games & lots more.
