Dún Laoghaire – Rathdown Libraries are delighted to launch My Little Library Bag 2026, a free national initiative for families with children aged 4–6 years, particularly those who are starting primary school in September 2026.

What Is My Little Library Bag?

My Little Library Bag is a free tote bag that families can collect from their local library, each one containing two books to help children prepare for starting school, as well as useful resources for parents. A My Little Library Bag card wallet is also available at the library on collection of the bag for existing library members, or children who join at the time. Bags and their contents are available in both Irish and English and can be picked up from any dlr Library at no cost to families.

The initiative is a collaboration between public libraries, the Department of Children, Disability and Equality (DCDE) and the Department of Rural and Community Development (DRCD), delivered as part of the Government’s First 5 Strategy, to improve the lives of babies, young children and their families.
