Welcome to dlr Scéal Trail, an initiative of dlr Libraries.
Supported by the Creative Ireland Programme.

New for Summer 2022 is a brilliant new Scéal Trail called Dodos are Not extinct from author and illustrator, Paddy Donnelly. Can you find dlr Libraries newest Scéal Trail in Bracken Road Park in Sandyford? (*available from Monday 31 May!) You are invited to follow the story, page by page, from beginning to end, just like a book, as you walk with your family and friends. There are 14 boards for you to find and read on your walk in Bracken Road Park.

Bracken Road parklet location.

Dodos Are Not Extinct

Psst! Hey you! Can you keep a secret? Dodos are NOT extinct! In fact, if you look extra closely, you might be able to spot other extinct animals . . . like woolly mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, and even dinosaurs! These famous creatures are in disguise everywhere, so keep your eyes peeled! You never know who might be right under your nose.

With thanks to YeeHoo Press for permission to use as a dlr Scéal Trail.

Paddy Donnelly is an Irish illustrator and author living in Belgium. He has illustrated 11 picture books, and his debut author illustrated picture book, The Vanishing Lake, was part of the Scéal Trail in 2021. His work has achieved international acclaim as he was nominated for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal 2022 and shortlisted for The World Illustration Awards. With a fondness for illustrating the sea and animals, Paddy loves working in a textured, painterly approach, and tries to inject a touch of humour to his work wherever he can. He wishes Pluto was still a planet.

dlr Libraries hosted Paddy's book The Vanishing Lake as a Scéal Trail in Dundrum Library outdoor space, in Bracken Road Parklet as well as in dlr LexIcon during 2021. We look forward to launching dlr Libraries newest Scéal Trail Dodos are Not Extinct in the new parklet on Bracken Road in Sandyford as part of Cruinniú, Sat 11 June and also in further locations to be announced.

Part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2022. Ireland is the first, and only, country in the world to have a national day of free creativity for children and young people under 18.
