Aftershock by Liz McSkeane – Author Reading and Historical Fiction Discussion 

Join novelist Liz McSkeane for a reading from her acclaimed historical novel Aftershock, set in the aftermath of the catastrophic 1755 Lisbon earthquake. The novel explores power, ambition, and the human cost of rebuilding a shattered nation, through the rise of the formidable Marquis of Pombal. The evening will include a discussion and Q&A on the craft of writing historical fiction — from research and shaping real events into narrative, to creating voice, character, and dramatic tension from the past. Perfect for readers, writers, and anyone fascinated by history brought vividly to life.

Using online library services

Join us for an interactive session with library staff who will go through the many benefits of being a member of the Library. You will get an overview of online services including Borrowbox, Libby, Kanopy, Medici, Universal Class, Transparent Languages, the Library App and other online services offered by dlr Libraries. Other services particular to Deansgrange Library such as My Open Library Service and our local history collection will also be covered. All you need is your library card number, and your PIN.  

 

Astronomy Week Talk with Brian Hassett

Join Brian Hassett for an illuminating talk on the history of astronomy, the scale of the universe, planets, deep sky, and backyard astrophotography. He will also provide links to useful YouTube channels and Facebook groups. 

 

An Introduction to Landscape and Deep Sky Astrophotography

As part of Irish Astronomy week, join us for an introduction to the world of Astrophotography, given by Reach for the Stars 2025 winner Liam Reddall.

 

Participants will be guided through the basic forms of Astrophotography, from capturing images of deep space nebulae and galaxies to incorporating the night sky and it's wonders into landscapes, featuring both space and our own environment.   

 

Easter Paper Quilling for Adults

Join staff member Kate to learn how to use rolled paper strips to decorate beautiful cards and Easter eggs. All materials will be supplied on the day, so just bring your creativity! Anyone looking to join us should be aware that this is quite a fiddly craft, so participants will need patience and manual dexterity!

St. Patrick’s Snakes and Shamrocks Crafts 

Celebrate St Patrick’s season with Visual Artist Susie Fortune at this playful, hands-on art workshop inspired by snakes, shamrocks and swirling colour! Explore drawing, painting and collage to create a bold mixed-media artwork full of patterns, texture and imagination. This process-focused session encourages creative confidence, experimentation and fun. Pneumatics Workshop with Anyone 4 Science

Join Anyone 4 Science in Dalkey Library for a hands-on pneumatics workshop. Children become young engineers as they design and build their very own working dumper truck. Through guided, step-by-step activities, children explore real-world engineering concepts while developing creativity and problem-solving skills. By the end of the session, each child leaves with a functional dumper truck and a big sense of achievement—proving that learning science and engineering can be both fun and exciting.
