Folk Songs and Singers of dlr
Part of the Dublin Festival of History, join us at Dundrum Library for an illuminating talk on the songs of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. We will explore traditional songs and music from and about this area of Dublin, moving from the 19th through to the 20th Century. Drawing on resources from our Local Studies library we will discuss the cultural moment these songs were crafted in, discussing authorship of the pieces, the power of the airs, and the best-known performances of the tunes, or in some cases why they aren't known at all. Much music from Dublin is known around the world, but there is much more still deserving of the same accolades and renown which we intend to shine a light on.
