Thursday 12 March 2026
Blackrock Library
Normal or One Off
Event Description
Join novelist Liz McSkeane for a reading from her acclaimed historical novel Aftershock, set in the aftermath of the catastrophic 1755 Lisbon earthquake. The novel explores power, ambition, and the human cost of rebuilding a shattered nation, through the rise of the formidable Marquis of Pombal. The evening will include a discussion and Q&A on the craft of writing historical fiction — from research and shaping real events into narrative, to creating voice, character, and dramatic tension from the past. Perfect for readers, writers, and anyone fascinated by history brought vividly to life.
