dlr LexIcon and Cultural Centre celebrates 10 years as Ireland’s busiest public library

dlr LexIcon and Cultural Centre has reached a remarkable milestone—its 10th anniversary! Officially opened on 17th April 2015, the venue has welcomed nearly four million visitors, cementing its status as the busiest public library in Ireland.

To mark the occasion, a special event was held last week, bringing together families, including children who, like dlr LexIcon, also turned 10 in April. The birthday celebrations included a lovely moment where children born in April—just like dlr LexIcon—were gifted a book.

MOL Deansgrange unavailable due to IT hardware failure

An update notice that the My Open Library in Deansgrange is currently unavailable.

This is due to an IT hardware failure, which requires an engineer to resolve.  We hope that an engineer will be available to visit as soon as possible to resolve the problem.

Unfortunately until the issue is resolved, the MOL will be unavailable.  The My Open Library in Dalkey is unaffected and remains open.

We regret the inconvenience this will cause and are working towards a speedy resolution.

What’s in a name? A Visual History Celebrating the Town’s Name Change in 1920

As part of dlr LexIcon’s 10th Anniversary, we are showcasing this very popular exhibition which was first displayed in 2020. In 1821 the name Dunleary or Dun Leary was changed to Kingstown in honour of King George IV’s visit to this bustling and rapidly developing town. In 1920, it was officially given the name Dún Laoghaire, referring to the original Irish name for Dunleary. In the years following the establishment of the Irish Free State, the use of Kingstown gradually diminished and was replaced in the consciousness of visitors and residents of the town by variants of the name – Dunleary
