Ghostlight: An exhibition of photographs by Mark Granier

Mark Granier is an award-winning photographer and poet and dlr Libraries were delighted to launch his first solo exhibition of photographs on Tuesday 24 April at dlr LexIcon. The Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Tom Murphy launched Mark's exhibition and guest speaker was Katie Donovan, another local award-winning poet - you can read her appreciation of Mark's work here. The exhibition also played an important role in our celebrations for Poetry Day Ireland, marked nationally on Thursday 26 April.

Bealtaine 2018

Bealtaine festival is celebrated across Ireland during May. Bealtaine celebrates the arts and creativity as we age, but don't let age be a barrier to the great events we have lined up for the month of May, all ages, young, old and young at heart can enjoy our programme.

dlr libraries have talks, exhibitions, botanical art courses, knitting, music, dance and a great new venture called Silver Screen - a must for all classic film fans running in dlr LexIcon, we have great events lined up for nearly every day in May. Check out our programme and find your creativity!

Poetry Day Ireland at dlr LexIcon

Poetry day Ireland was a huge success at dlr LexIcon on Thursday 26 April. Beautiful sunny spells and dramatic downpours accompanied the inaugural Poetry by the Pond event, we were delighted with the wonderful turnout for this event, with 6th year students from Clonkeen college taking time out from a busy year to read and listen to poetry. We hope to see you at the next one, on Thursday 31st May.

Silver Screen, a mini-season of film classics

To celebrate Bealtaine, we bring you a special selection of films: three certifiable masterpieces and a modern classic.

What is a ‘film classic’? A work that will endure through the centuries? But cinema is a very young art form, a mere 120 years old! Perhaps then, a classic is a film that endures through our lifetimes –that can change and adapt to us as we grow older, so that we always find something new in each new viewing. With time, some films get sillier, or harder to crack, more cynical, or playful, more tender, or uncompromising, or darker, or wiser. For this special season celebrating

The Work Matters Service includes:
Free membership to dlr Libraries as well as the national linked Library service.
Access to business and employment books, journals, newspapers, reports, wirefeeds, eBooks, eAudio and eMagazines.  PCs, laptops and Wifi available for use in the library

dlr LexIcon in Dún Laoghaire named one of the most popular free tourist attractions in Ireland!

Fáilte Ireland confirmed in a release this morning that the multi award winning dlr LexIcon is the 5th most visited free tourist attraction in the country.  With over 525,000 visitors in 2017, dlr LexIcon provides visitors and locals with state of the art facilities comprising of a library, art gallery, exhibition and meeting room, theatre and conference space, public meeting rooms, cafe and one of the best views on the east coast.  The Cultural Programme at dlr LexIcon is unique with exhibitions of international significance in the gallery along with concerts and seminars in the Studio. 

Be a Summer Star with dlr Libraries!

Summer Stars is an exciting reading-based programme which is available free of charge to all children across the country.

The Summer Stars reading challenge runs during the summer in public libraries all over Ireland. Children are invited to register and enjoy reading lots of books during this time. All participants will be given a Summer Stars reading card to record their progress. They will receive a stamp on their card for each book that they read, and if they're on holidays they can collect Summer Stars reading stamps wherever they are in the country!
