"A World of Colour": The art of Beatrice Alemagna and Chris Haughton

Chris Haughton is an Irish designer and picturebook maker. His first book, A Bit Lost has been translated into 20 languages and has won awards in 7 countries including the Dutch Picture Book of the Year. Other award-winning books include Shh! We have a Plan, Oh no, George! and most recently Goodnight Everyone. He co-founded NODE, a fair trade social business based in Nepal in 2012 and one of his fair trade rugs ‘Fish’ is on display at the exhibition.

dlr Writer in Residence, Sarah Webb, in association with Children’s Books Ireland and supported by Words Ireland organised a great event on  Saturday 4 February 2017 in dlr LexIcon, on writing and illustrating books for children.

The day examined and asked questions such as: How much do children’s writers get paid? How important are events and social media? What are publishers and agents looking for in 2017 and beyond?

The event was completely sold out (120 capacity) with over 70 on the waiting list. Due to the interest in this event, we recorded the sessions, and you can listen back on each

On Wednesday 8 March 2017 dlr Libraries hosted a Panel Discussion as part of our Positive Parenting week in dlr LexIcon Studio on: "Happy Kids: Raising Children in the Digital Age"
 
This panel discussion was chaired by Jennifer O’Connell, journalist and weekly columnist with The Irish Times and was all about children’s health, reading, activities and screen time with experts in the field, including Stella O’Malley, psychotherapist, writer and public speaker, Sarah Webb, dlr Writer in Residence, Cliona Curley, Programme Director of CyberSafeIreland. and Vita Coleman, dlr LexIcon library staff.

We are very lucky to have experienced facilitators who run our Baby Book Clubs in dlr Libraries and share their knowledge about books, literacy and reading with children. You are bound to pick up a few tips at every session. Baby Book Clubs also provides a great chance to meet other parents in a social setting, as well as introduce your child to the library from a young age.
