The Oratory of the Sacred Heart, Dún Laoghaire

The Oratory of the Sacred Heart was built by the Dominican nuns of St Mary's Convent Kingstown (Dún Laoghaire) in 1918 and dedicated to the Sacred Heart in 1919. It celebrates peace at the end of the Great War and commemorates the many local Irishmen who fought and died in the conflict. From 1920-36, it was hand-painted by Sr Concepta Lynch, a Dominican nun at St Mary's and the result is a stunning example of the Celtic Revival style. This is the first

New Autism Spectrum Collection Launched in Stillorgan Library on Tuesday 22nd October 2019 at 10.30am, with An Leas Cathaoirleach Deirdre Donnelly

ASC is a dedicated collection of resources collated with the needs of the autism community in mind. This new booklet produced by dlr Libraries includes a reading guide as well as a lending collection and is designed to offer support to the autism community and those with additional needs in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County.
 
 

 

The life and times of Justice Daniel Cohalan

On Wednesday 6 November at dlr LexIcon, Cork University Press launched a new publication by Dr Michael Doorley entitled Justice Daniel Cohalan 1865-1946: American patriot and Irish-American nationalist. The book was officially launched by Dr David McCullagh, author, journalist and RTÉ presenter with Judge Peter Fox Cohalan, grandnephew of Daniel Cohalan, who flew in from New York especially for the occasion.

Over 60 TY students joined us in the library for an 8 week course incorporating hands-on workshops and maker days within the realm of STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). The Showcase Day was the culmination of all their hard work as they presented their ideas for products to improve modern living. Your Library - Take a Closer Look

A new national advertising campaign is asking everyone to take a closer look at what their local authority library has to offer. 
dlr Libraries and all public libraries around the country are joining in the campaign, which is running for the next four weeks across radio, cinema, TV on demand, digital and social. 
The aim of the campaign is to encourage people of all ages to join and use the library. 
Speaking about the campaign, a spokesperson said, “People who use the library regularly know how great it is. But there are those who haven’t been in a while or don’t visit very often.
