Exciting new Scéal Trails to be launched on Cruinniú na nÓg
Ireland is the first, and only, country in the world to have a national day of free creativity for children and young people under 18. Cruinniú na nÓg is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth Plan to enable the creative potential of children and young people.
This Cruinniú na nÓg 2021 there are an abundance of wonderful events online to choose from delivered by dlr. If you would rather get outside, why not discover and explore two wonderful new Scéal Trails, one in Cabinteely and one in the west of the county in Dundrum, both will launch on Saturday 12 June.
Right to Read at your library
Right to Read is a national programme to promote literacy and reading development for people of all ages and backgrounds. Launched as part of the Opportunities for All: the public library as a catalyst for economic, social and cultural development 2013-2017 libraries strategy, it currently includes four national programmes designed to promote children's reading and literacy. These are:
- Spring into Storytime, runs for month of April every year
- Summer Reading, runs June-September every year
- Children’s Book Festival, runs for month of October every year
- Family Time at your Library, runs for month of

Creative competition for children and young people Summer 2021
Theme: “How I like to play…”
This summer we want it to be all about play, in the real world and in your imagination. We want to know where and how you like to play, and what you remember as being your best play experiences. Perhaps even imagine a play experience you haven’t yet had!
You can tell us all about this theme in a number of ways; write a story or a poem, draw, paint, or create in 3D format and submit to dlr Libraries & Parks creative competition to be in with a chance to win some great prizes.

Lego Competition 2021
Children and young people are invited to participate in dlr Libraries Lego Competition 2021, a perfect project to work on this August and September and also possibly win some prizes!
We have four age categories as well as the 'Crowd Favourite' category, team builds are also accepted, so feel free to buddy up with a sibling, family member or friend to build and to enter!
Each year we are bowled over by the Lego builds we receive in dlr LexIcon, with close to 90 builds submitted each year in 2017, 2018 and 2019, each showing creativity and ingenious building skills and filling our library with a

Sunday Reopening- dlr LexIcon
dlr Libraries are pleased to announce that Level 3 in dlr LexIcon is now open again for browsing and borrowing on Sundays 12pm-4pm. Library users can browse the displays on Level 3 and borrow and return items on a self-service basis.
The Municipal Gallery is open during these hours also to view On returning – an exhibition by Gary Coyle and you can also view the CHERISH exhibition which is on display on Level 3 and outdoors on Moran Park.
Please note you will not be able to collect reservations on Sundays. Library staff are available Monday-Saturday for any queries you may have.
