Peter Varga is an author, photographer and creator of the social media phenomenon Humans of Dublin. Over the past decade, he has approached thousands of people on the streets of Dublin and posted over 2,500 portraits and stories to his page. Quakerism, a sect inspired by the preaching of George Fox, arose during the religious upheavals of seventeenth-century England. The Society of Friends of the Truth, as they called themselves, attempted to return to the simpler values of the early Christian church. The fundamental belief was that there is that of God in every human being, and that intermediaries, such as priests, between God and man are unnecessary.

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council aare embarking on an exciting journey to shape the future of our iconic Harbour, and we need you on board! A pop-up will take place in September and October in dlr LexIcon as part of the consultation, with an opportunity for adults to share feedback, and for children to submit a 'Dún Laoghaire Harbour - Wish You Were Here!' postcard for consideration. 

The Dún Laoghaire Harbour Masterplan will be our directional chart for decades to come guiding how we want to use, develop and enjoy the Harbour, and its environs. Have your say!

Woodspace: Exhibition of Wood Designers of the Present and the Future

Rotary Ireland and dlr LexIcon present Woodspace, an exhibition that features posters, video, design models and information on sustainable use of wood from forest to end product, including case studies of award-winning architects and designers alongside third level students. 

 

Collaboration is the theme of many of the projects featured in Woodspace including Venice Vessel and The Seamus Heaney Walk Seating Project. Both depended on support from communities, sawmillers, designers and makers.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Libraries present an exhibition of digitised glass plate slides from the dlr Local Studies' Charles Hamilton Oswald Collection. Oswald, from Dún Laoghaire, had a special interest in yachting, and either acquired or inherited the collection which mainly depicts life in and around Dún Laoghaire Harbour. A digitised version of this unique collection will be available to view for the first time, reflecting an important period in the town's history.
