Stillorgan Village Library is now OPEN!

Stillorgan Library is being redeveloped. While the new library is being built, there is a pop-up Stillorgan Village Library upstairs in the Stillorgan Village shopping centre, which will deliver all core library services, including access to book stock and request services, some study spaces, a children’s section; with incorporated sensory elements into the  space, PC’s, printing/scanning, newspaper access, and friendly, helpful customer service!

Location of new library:  Unit J, Stillorgan village shopping centre, Dublin, A94PR90 (on the first floor, beside Peter Marks)

Wonderfest 2021

WonderFest is an online children’s book festival that aims to celebrate and promote Irish books. It was set up in 2020 and is run by a team of Irish children’s writers and illustrators. Wonderfest is supported by dlr Libraries.

WonderFest 2021 will take place from 17th to 21st November with a range of events for schools, families and a new strand called ‘WonderFest Inspires’ which will feature webinars and masterclasses for new and emerging children’s writers. After the success of last year’s online book festival, WonderFest is back, featuring a wealth of Irish talent, including Oliver Jeffers

Cuairt agus Cultúr Festive programme

Cuairt agus Cultúr is a cultural events programme run by dlr Libraries and dlr Arts Office in residential care settings for older people in the County. Running since 2018, the annual programme moved online during 2020 with many live, interactive as well as pre-recorded sessions delivered via Zoom. During summer 2021, we delivered a live programme to four care settings in the County. In December 2021, we are delighted to deliver festive wreaths to all residential care settings along with this festive programme of prerecorded events for all to enjoy, available throughout the month of December.

Shifting Foundations, the Big Houses of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown - A new book and exhibition at dlr LexIcon

An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Lettie McCarthy, has launched a new book and accompanying exhibition in dlr LexIcon, Level 3, running until the 9th of February 2022.

Shifting Foundations – The Big Houses of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown explores the history of some of the big houses of the county including the three houses that are managed by dlr County Council at Marlay, Cabinteely and Fernhill. Edited by the dlr Historian in Residence, David Gunning, contributors to the book include Peter Pearson, Rob Goodbody, Georgina Sweetnam, Nicola Kelly and Dr. Deirdre Raftery.

What is a Scéal Trail?

A Scéal Trail is an outside story walk that everyone can enjoy! A scéal trail or story walk is a book delivered in an exhibition format that you can follow, from beginning to end, as you walk with your family or friends.

dlr Libraries Christmas calendar of book recommendations for younger readers!

In the lead up to Christmas 2021, dlr Libraries shared a children's book recommendation each day on social media.

Most suited towards younger readers, or for anyone that loves a picture book, you will find a glorious collection of great reads that showcase the talent, creativity and colour of the wonderful writers and illustrators on the green Isle.

While we created this online exhibition for December 2021, these books can be enjoyed and read at any time of the year, so keep the recommendations close at hand for when you want your next great picture book.

Reader Pens

Reader Pens read words and full lines of text aloud for independent reading. Those with dyslexia, those who have difficulty with reading or pronunciation, those learning languages or those with vision problems will find these pens extremely helpful pieces of technology.

This device reads text out with natural speaking voice. The pens have built-in dictionaries so you can access definitions as you read for better understanding.

These devices can be borrowed, by any library user for an eight week loan period. To access these pens please email libraryculture@dlrcoco.ie

New additions to dlr Libraries ASC Collection

dlr Libraries are delighted to announce recent additions to our ASC lending collection thanks to Dormant Account Funding 2021.
The ASC lending collection includes sensory/tactile toys and equipment; tools to help build motor skills and items that may help develop life skills and literacy.
New additions available to borrow include See and Learn kits to aid literacy skills for those with Down Syndrome, fine motor skills games, sensory toys and LEGO sets.
